Collection: VANGUARD AW23
This AW23 Season, we take a retrospective look at fashion history, subculture and pop culture in the 70’s. The collection is inspired by a cross between 70’s Goth and 70’s Sports Luxe, a meeting of two clashing worlds. We play on the camp hyper-athleticism which 70’s sportswear brings, contrasting this with a dark, sensitive, brooding glam underworld.

The collection is built with a focus on geometric shapes, the splicing of retro sportswear meets deeply romantic cathedral inspired structures to create clash and subversion. Sharp, traditional tailoring is layered over the ease of sporty fabrics and slouchy drape. The feeling for daily wear is one of inner comfort while presenting as ‘put-together’ to the
outside world. The featured use of old-world wool fabrics such as tweed and herringbone, tailored in a contemporary streetwear style, also subverts hunting clothes of the upper class into club culture.

This AW23 season brings together the ‘outsiders’ (subculture) with the ‘insiders’ (popular culture) in the era which marked the birth of punk, a new freedom which paved the way for the club kids of the 80’s. We take a tongue-in-cheek look at today’s watering down and homogenisation of subcultures to cater to pop culture of the masses, asking the question - ‘how does one define individuality?’
